Red
I have a very long story of >21 years of my husband’s addiction which I will share when I have the energy but I am looking from the partner’s perspective for recommendations on therapy or treatment He has never seen anyone for this and I have agreed to help him find someone/something as he difficulties navigating the endless therapy streams of people who say they cover this area. is it best for him to do 121 therapy? What qualifications or sort of specialist should we be looking for? What has worked best for your partner and you?
Cowslip
Hi Red. My husband also has a very long term porn addiction, which he tried numerous times to deal with on his own. In the end, after a major breakdown in our otherwise good relationship, he decided he needed help. He did a one day group therapy session with Paula Hall, and we found a counsellor who followed the same approach as Paula, and who saw us as a couple over a number of months. This helped to reinforce the messages he got on the one day course, and meant that my anger / distress / fears were also addressed. I have to say that for me the couples counselling was a life-saver. My husband found the Paula Hall session incredibly helpful - this was the first time he had talked about his behaviour and addiction with anyone other than me. At the moment he is managing okay, but he has said that if he ever relapses, or thinks he may relapse, he would go back and do a longer course with Paula, and would also want to go back to couples counselling as well. Hope this is of some help. I wish you all the very best on this difficult journey.
